I love these kinds of posts Iona - They dig into our own lives. Certainly mine. The heart cannot be controlled. That's the feeling aspect of that sort of love. My own question is what do I do about these feelings? Sidney Carton reveals his love to his beloved, but then retreats to the background to later gives his life for Lucy in exchange for her husband. My own decision has been to keep my feelings to myself. Even if the other person knew and responded favourably, any form of action would be disastrous. It's a mess that cannot be resolved.

That's a tough situation, but, yes, you know it feels horrible to suffering from unrequited love, but it feels much worse to act in way that goes against your conscience and to know you have done wrong.
