What a beautiful reflection. I’d love to go to Australia. My great grandfather is buried there: my grandmother’s family was emigrating from Ireland, but he took ill on the boat and died once they arrived, so the rest of the family went back home. So I feel a connection to the place, and your magnificent words make it all the more alluring!
Hi Iona. I live in Sydney, adore the ocean pools. Nice to hear from an outsider that’s it’s special (though we know it is) and you find the people easy, I agree they are 💙
I went to Australia at 55 when I retired from teaching elementary school. I signed up from Canada for a camping bike trip called ROC tours; Remote Outback Cyscling. The trip began in Perth and ended in Alice Spring but afterwards I travelled to Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Darwin, Kakadu, Brisbane,, Gladstone & Heron Island. I loved Australia so much I was in no hurry to return to my much loved husband and two children. I understand.
There’s nothing like summer in winter and the ocean. what a wonderful place the earth is! You might enjoy Rachel Carson’s “The Sea Around Us” I read it on my midwinter getaway.
